A person operating a power driven vessel over 4.5 kws and over are required to hold a Recreational Skippers Ticket. Colin McKinley is offering both coaching and assessment at the Mangle Bay Fishing Club.
The assessment is in two parts. a) Theory assessment to test your knowledge of the rules and regulations. b) Practical assessment to test your ability to manage the vessel within the rules.
You must pass the theory test before you can undertake practical assessment. Both sections are covered in the "Guide to Obtaining the RST Workbook". This book is available from the club rooms or from boating and fishing supply outlets. You can also view the workbook online at www.dpi.wa.gov.au
Theory assessments are held at the Mangles Bay Fishing Club rooms on Monday evenings, except the third Monday of each month. Please note that this is dependent on the amount of bookings received, so phone Colin first.
Practical assessments are by appointment only, on Saturday mornings. Bookings are essential. Practical assessments are done using your boat (or if you call on a favor from a mate) and it must be registered, insured and suitable for completion of the test and be equipped with all relevant safety gear for the area of operation.
Proof of insurance will be required and a release form must be signed by the owner. If you do not have all the correct documents and photo identification at the time of assessment, it will be deferred to another date.
Assessments are available through the club for members, crew, families and friends. Members are encoraged to make the theory booking to introduce non-members.
To make a booking or for more information please call Colin Mckinley on (08) 9525 1477 e-mail: oldbury@dodo.com.au
